*From Brooklyn, NY hails the experimental, jazz metal, hard rockin' sideproject SPYLACOPA. Not for the feint of heart, SPYLACOPA explores a myriad of musical avenues in order to satisfy founder and brainchild for the project John LaMacchia's quest for musical utopia. Ranging from crooning vocals and bloodcurdling screams to electronic metal noise and distorted power riffs, SPYLACOPA's debut ep is a practically perfect example of one's desire to experiment out loud.

*A very special edition of B-Sides this week. I've been thinking of doing a tribute show for some time and there is no more artist deserving of one than Mike Patton. He's fronted bands such as Faith no More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk and Peeping Tom and contributed on numerous other side projects for himself and others. Called one of the greatest vocal talents of this generation, Mike Patton never seems to pigeon hole himself in one genre, transitioning from hard rock and metal to pop music and trip-hop, all the while maintaining an avant-garde/experimental direction in everything he does.

*the unofficial slogan for B-Sides has to the old Monty Python saying "And now, for something completely different"...because that's just where I always seem to take the show. Franz Nicolay might just be the most unique character ever to grace the B-Sides airwaves. A multi-instrumentalist and a member of more bands than I care to list finally put out his own solo release. "Major General", released in late 2008 really showcases a unique writing style, and for that matter a unique cat just trying to express himself well....uniquely.
