*a unique night to say the least here at KSER. B-Sides the typically 2 hour show, relinquished (with only a small bribe!) 1 hour of the show and handed over the airwaves to JoJo and Ace so they could present (hopefully) their show Raised on Metal to the masses. Generally I throw in a mix of metal and hard rock, however tonight I let them air guitar in studio all they wanted and stuck to the less often played hip-hop/electro/shoegaze. So it was a fun night for all of us. Back to normal next week...well I guess that's all relative.

*Since America has been feeling that warm and fuzzy feeling following the inauguration, the enormous and highly gifted staff at B-sides felt we should do our part by bringing you Future of the Left. Having little to nothing to do with the U.S.A., Future of the Left bring forth the spastic rock n'roll those crazy Brit's are known for! Right? Shame really these bloks don't tour over here but their busy making names for themselves in Europe as I type this. If you enjoy nonsensical lyrics coupled with a bizarre vocal delivery and fish n' chips then Future of the Left are yours to take home. Cheers! - patrick

*It occured to me that when we (my partner and I) first began 'B-sides', the format was almost exclusively punk rock. It's been some time now and many a show later that 'B-sides' has taken on a different identity and broadened it's horizons. However, this week it's back to my roots with the L.A. based punk rock band The Briggs. Having released their 4th full length album in 2008 (and their best!!!) The Briggs continue to revive punk rock in a time when it truly needs it. If you miss the classic punk rock bands such as The Clash, Sham 69, Stiff Little Fingers or Cock Sparrer,....then The Briggs might be for you. Give 'em a listen.

*This week I featured a very young, up and coming band from Grand Rapids, Michigan La Dispute. "Somewhere at the bottom of the river between vega and altair", the bands latest album was released in 2008 to much critical acclaim. A little bit rock, a little bit poetry, a little bit post-hardcore is what this band is all about. "Somewhere" attempts to prompt discussion regarding the aspects of ourselves that prevent us from maintaining our happiness as people by documenting both their own experiences in the matter and the experiences of those around them, while musically encouraging the listener to expand their notions of music and art by exploring time signatures, tempos, dynamics, song structures, etc...You can purchase La Dispute here

*so after a two week hiatus due to me working in the snows and ice, i've returned....and i brought with me an eclectic array of songs to help with new years eve. this week i featured an album rather than a band, which is a first on b-sides. this album however is no ordinary lp, it is a tribute to johnny cash featuring todays punk rock underground doing their part to immortalize the man in black. the real beauty of this album is it features many songs that for the most part are not always included in greatest hits albums and the like. so with this i ring in the new year and thank everyone who helps out at KSER and let 2009 become a banner year. - patrick
